Age 14: You may take classroom driver education which may help you to prepare to get your learner's permit. You may not take in-car instruction until you have a valid Virgnia Learner's Permit.
Age 15: You may take classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. You must have a valid Virginia Learner's Permit prior to beginning behind-the-wheel instruction. You should go to DMV to get your learner's permit as soon as possible because you will be required to have it for 9 months. You may take the written test when you are 15 1/2 years old. Should you not pass, you must wait 15 days before you can retest, so be prepared.
Age 16, 17 & 18: You are required to have completed classroom and in-car instruction, have had your learner's for at least 9 months, and have passed your on-road driving test which we will administer at the end of your in-car instruction. You must continue to have your parent's permission. You must also have the judge's persmission if you have had a conviction. Anyone who has a regular driver's license may take the Driver Improvement Program in order to earn 5 safe driving points. Every new driver should complete this program and start out with a positive 5 safe driving points on his/her license. Age 19: You may go to DMV to take your computer (written), vision, and road tests. Classroom and in-car instruction are not required, neither is the school's proof of enrollment. For what you must take, see FAQ. Your insurance company may give you a premium discount if you have completed driver education. |
